Mainstay works with adults 18+ in the community who suffer from mental illnesses, including depression, stress, anxiety, OCD, schizophrenia, and other mental health conditions. The support is aimed at helping service users to become more connected with their community and add value to their lives through individual support.
Mainstay are a charity that offer individual support and advocacy based on need and promote social inclusion through community drop-ins and groups. They also support service users to recognise their own abilities and coping strategies and encourage self-expression.
Mentoring: One-to-one support to achieve agreed goals. This is a recovery method of working.
Counselling: One-to-one counselling for all types of mental health issues using the Rogerian method of counselling.
Short Courses for Recovery: Taster courses on various topics, such as stress management, healthy eating, creative writing and anxiety.
Drop-in: A relaxed social networking opportunity every Wednesday aimed at helping service users to feel less isolated and more socially included with games and discussions. The drop-in also provides opportunity for informal advice help with budgeting and signposting to services.
Coffee group: Another opportunity for social networking. This group goes to a different coffee shop in York every Tuesday morning to promote socialisation.
Health walk: This group meets every Wednesday morning for a walk around the city to encourage exercise and socialisation.
Skills for work: IT courses, maths, English, CV writing, volunteering and work experience
